Kirk Cameron's book tour for his children's book As You Grow has consistently drawn crowds of parents and kids, and the stop in Savannah, Georgia on Thursday was no exception. Accompanied by country music star Coffey Anderson, the two celebrated the book, and the values it represents, with the crowd who came out to the Chatham County Public Library.
"When I heard that Kirk was going to talk to kids in a public library about an America described as 'Freedom Island', I knew playing my song 'Mr Red White and Blue' was a perfect fit," Anderson told The Post Millennial. "Not only did I play for the families, I shared my story on why I love America and how to protect our freedoms no matter what age. The crowd was excited, eager, attentive, and fun."
Anderson and Cameron led the attendees in the National Anthem.
The Post Millennial caught up with Cameron on tour for the book, which has tour dates scheduled across the US over the next few months, and many of those dates will feature not just Cameron, but other notables who want to share in the message As You Grow is spreading.
"What's been really exciting to see since the last time we talked," Cameron said, "is that people have been hearing about this story, about me going to these public libraries, and they've been so excited about that they've asked to join in and so now we have artists, we have celebrities, athletes, governors of states, different political representatives, who want to join me at these at these library storytime readings.
"Coffey Anderson is passionate about the hearts and minds of our children and protecting them. He's a parent, he's very patriotic," he said, "and he's gonna be hitting the notes that I can't hit." Cameron's goal is "talk with the parents and kids about the blessing of living in a country where we have religious freedom, political freedom and the freedom to educate our children in the values that we want for them."
There's also been a great deal of controversy recently at local and state levels with regard to legislation either prohibiting sex changes for minors, or making states essentially sanctuary states for minors who are seeking sex changes, potentially against parental approval, and for Cameron, pushing back against gender ideology indoctrination for kids is essential.
"Yes, yes, absolutely," he said when asked if he felt that the book tour, and the press his efforts have received, are part of that movement to overturn the intensive and bizarre gender focus that has swept the US. "I think it was Gandalf the Grey, from the Lord of the Rings, who said that we must each do what is in us during the years wherein we have been set to uproot the evil in the fields we know.
"And that's what I see these legislators doing," he said. "That's what you're doing. That's what I'm trying to do, is to do what we can to uproot the evil in the fields that we know, whether that's the journalistic field or whether that's the legislative field or the entertainment field, because we want a better world for our children, when they start their families.
"And so I love that everyone is doing this, and I'm trying to play my part as well. And I think that this couldn't be a better time for these library story readings to be taking place," he said. "We are hearing cries from the parents for us to come and not only read this book, but give parents ways that they can join the fight to take back the hearts and minds of their children. Those cries are louder now than they were when I first started this book tour in December."
Cameron's tour initially received pushback from libraries across the country as Brave contacted the libraries to see if they would host the readings of As You Grow. 55 libraries, plenty of which hosted Drag Queen Story Hours in the past, refused to host Cameron, with some stating that the Christian values of the book did not align with the mission, though apparently men dressed in garish women's clothing reading books on gender identity did align fine with their mission.
Cameron pushed back, and Brave booked space at libraries, only to find that hundreds upon hundreds of parents and kids in each city were eager to find content that was not constantly hounding kids about their gender and sexuality.
