Author, World War I German Army Soldier. Born Erich Paul Remark, in Osnabrück, Germany, he was an author of many works, best known for his first novel, "All Quiet on the Western Front". The book was written in response to his experiences as a German soldier in World War I, published in 1930. He left Germany in 1938, when his citizenship was revoked and the Nazi Government banned his works. He relocated to Switzerland, later emigrated to the US in 1947, where he lived and wrote. Some of his many novels included "Flotsam" (1941), "Ten Days to Die" (1950), "Spark of life" (1952), "Heaven Has No Favorites" (1961) and "The Night in Lisbon" (1964). He later moved to Locarno, Switzerland, where stayed until his death at age 72.
