Bloodlinefans who are eagerly awaiting the arrival of the dark family drama’s second season on Netflix Friday at midnight likely still remember the major plot points from the series’ first season: Black sheep brother DannyRayburn(BenMendelsohn) returns home, starts dealing drugs through the family inn and ultimately dies in a fight with his younger brother John (Kyle Chandler) on the beach. Oh, and Danny had a son, as the kid himself revealed when he showed up at John’s house in the closing seconds of the season finale. There’smore on those major developments here.

But unless you watched (orre-watched) the first season far more recently than when it debuted 14 months ago, you might not remember some of the more intricate details and subplots, which resurface in the second season. For instance, do you recall hearing that Danny once robbed a drug store in Miami? That in framing Wayne Lowry (GlennMorshower) for Danny’s death, John and the youngestRayburnbrother Kevin (Norbert LeoButz) texted his girlfriend ChelseaO’Bannon(ChloeSevigny) from Danny’s flip phone? Or did you stumble over the name Wayne Lowry? What aboutRafiQuintana(GinoVento)? Or Vicente Cruz (ChazMena)?

If so, read on.The Hollywood Reporterhas compiled a handy refresher on things viewers may need to know for season two.

Danny had money problems in Miami.

Early in the first season, Danny tells his friend EricO’Bannon(JamieMcShane) that he opened the seafood restaurant he was planning but indicated things weren’t going so well. “I trusted these dudes. Bad dudes. Wrong dudes to trust. Now I’m in a bit of a hole,” he says. It’s these financial difficulties that lead Eric to rope Danny with his work stealing gas forQuintana, a tattooed associate of drug dealer Lowry, whom Danny ultimately does business with as he moves narcotics through theRayburnfamily’s inn.

But back to Miami. Later in the season, John finds out that Danny was the head chef at VivaCaputarestaurant, which is boarded up after a fire. He also meets up with Beth Mackey (HaniAvital), a woman who’s listed as having bailed Danny out of jail after an arrest. She tells John that Danny owed a lot of money, which he borrowed for the restaurant, to “the kind of guys who get it back or you get hurt.” He stole painkillers from a pharmacy and got caught selling them, which is how he ended up in jail. Mackey suggests the fire was arson and tells John that Danny didn’t get any insurance money due to the damage. But guys kept showing up looking for their money, she says, until recently. She also tells John about Danny’s apartment in the city. When John goes to check it out, he finds envelopes of cash Danny had been sending there.

Lowry was also involved in an immigration run gone bad.

At the beginning of the first season, John and his detective partner Marco Diaz (EnriqueMurciano) began investigating two girls who were found dead in the water and covered in burns. They ultimately determined that the girls were likely killed in an immigration run gone bad carried out byQuintana, working for Lowry. Through a “missing” sign, John and Marco find Vicente Cruz, the father of one of the girls, who identifiesQuintanaas the man who offered to help bring his wife and kids to America after he left them behind in Guatemala. Cruz says he paid Quintana $3,000 to bring his daughter into the country, but she never made it and the guy disappeared. As John and Marco start looking into Lowry, the DEA shows up and reveals that they’re also investigating Lowry for dealing drugs, and looking intoQuintanaand EricO’Bannonfor helping him. It’s also worth noting that while John and Marco go out as a team to investigate the deaths of the girls, it seems like Marco is leading and more dedicated to the investigation. In the first season, viewers also see how such an immigration run could go bad as Lowry is shown in a flashback orderingQuintanato “get rid” of the “cargo” and the boat. So Lowry’s guys, it appears, poured gasoline on the boat and set it on fire. Just as John did with the boat he put Danny on.

Danny got an assault case dropped after he hadQuintanaput pressure on the prosecution’s only witness.

Midway through the first season, MegRayburn(LindaCardellini) ends up doing pro-bono legal work for former inn employee Carlos Mejia (EliezerCastro), who was arrested for larceny, robbery and aggravated assault after getting into a drunken fight, while carrying a knife, with a man who owed him money. The prosecution’s star witness is a bartender named Aaron Davis (EdsonJean), who is dating the accuser’s sister. But after Danny spots Carlos at a co*ckfight, drinking despite telling Meg he was trying to get sober, he sees an opportunity that they can help each other out.Quintanathen shows up at Davis’ bar and asks if they can talk, saying Carlos is a friend of a friend. Shortly after, Meg finds out from the prosecutor that Davis won’t testify, so they don’t have a case. Carlos ends up working at the inn again and helping Danny with his drug-dealing operation.

John tips Danny off that the DEA is going after Lowry.

Danny convinces Lowry andQuintanato bring him into their drug-trafficking operation, with Danny using the inn to help move the narcotics. And when the DEA starts to move in on Lowry, John gives Danny a heads-up. John tells him that if Danny comes clean, he’ll talk to the DA and help cut him a deal, showing him pictures of the two girls who died to motivate Danny to turn on Lowry. But instead Danny turns on John. Danny tells Lowry andQuintanathat the DEA is going after them. Lowry helpsQuintanaescape and then has him killed. This all takes place as Danny starts talking to John at the police station, but stops after the DEA tells John that the bust failed, conveniently before Danny reveals he offered his drug-dealing services to Lowry. “Nah, I don’t think I’m going to tell you any more,” Danny says once he realizes he’s in the clear.

John and Kevin framed Lowry for Danny’s death and texted Danny’s girlfriend Chelsea from Danny’s phone as part of the cover-up.

After Danny dies and Meg and Kevin move his body, they come up with a way to get rid of the body and frame Lowry. While acting like Danny is missing, John and Kevin move the suitcases of narcotics they took out of a shed at the inn to Danny’s apartment in Miami and make it look like the place was ransacked. As John and Kevin leave Danny’s apartment, it’s worth remembering that someone in a “RayburnHouse” t-shirt sees them leave. The siblings continue to act like Danny is missing at the family’s pier dedication ceremony, putting him in the seersucker suit he was supposed to wear to the event, making it look like he was going to attend, before John carries him to a boat and sets it on fire. When Marco and the DEA agent investigating Lowry, ClayGrunwald(Bill Kelly), explain why they think Lowry is responsible for Danny’s death, John’s plan becomes clear. They tell him they found the drugs in Miami, so much that Danny could only have amassed all of that if he stole it from Lowry, they believe. And viewers see that to explain when Danny went to Miami, Kevin and John sent a text message from Danny’s flip phone to Chelsea. The day before the pier dedication, John calls Lowry pretending to be Danny, leading Marco and the DEA agent to deduce that Danny set up a meeting with Lowry to make peace but Lowry had him killed and tried to get rid of the body on the boat. The drowning and burning matches how the immigrant girls died.

John brought the seahorse necklace Danny gave to his daughter to the beach the day of their fatal fight.

In the anxiety-inducing11thepisode ofBloodline‘s first season, Danny essentially kidnapped John’s daughter Jane (TaylorRouviere) and took her out on a boat as John raced around the Keys trying to find her. When he does locate his daughter, he sees that Danny got her a present — a seahorse necklace like the one the family’s late sister Sarah had and was wearing when she drowned. John takes the necklace and ultimately brings it with him when he goes to the beach to talk to Danny, before their fighting turns physical and ends with Danny dead. While the two are sitting on a log, John holds up the necklace and says, “You expect me to forget about this? I can forgive so much. Not that.” He then places the necklace down on the log they’re sitting on.

Danny gave a vague answer when asked if he has kids.

Anyone who’s seen the final seconds of the first season ofBloodlineor the promos for season two know that Danny’s son, Nolan (Owen Teague), shows up in this new set of episodes. But while the first season, up until its final seconds, gave no hint of Danny being a father, and he certainly didn’t tell his family he was, it seems worth mentioning that he did offer a vague answer when asked by Lowry about whether he has kids. Danny goes to see Lowry while the latter is with his kids at a swimming pool. Lowry asks Danny if he has kids and Danny says, “Not sure that I’m cut out to be a father.” Lowry adds, “Well you never know. Might just surprise yourself someday.”
